The Smoking Litterer – Green What’s That? – My Rant.

Have you ever driven behind someone and then you see these little white glowing things being chucked out the window?

Yes, that’s right a smoker doing what is natural to their will and whim. I presume they feel that the butt is better outside their vehicle instead of inside their precious spectacular vehicle. You know why litter the ride with those unsightly little white, grey, charcoal, black and some orange colored round bits of death.

Why is littering butts such a bad way of thinking since they are made from natural products?

Well I can think of one right off. FOREST FIRES not to mention most deadly products come from natural products in their raw form for example the nuclear bomb, cyanide and plastic. I know that a nuclear bomb is much more hazardous to the environment than one butt but what about the millions upon millions that litter our streets, highways and rivers. I wonder if a fish would enjoy a smoke?

Now enough of this line of reasoning.

The reality is if a person doesn’t mind chucking out a cigarette butt the window then what about other types of garbage?

Yes as I was driving down the road behind a silver car I saw one butt fly out the window then a second butt but it didn’t just stop there a couple of minutes later there goes a plastic wrapper out the window I guess the driver wanted to keep his car clean and not the environment. I wonder if he had a cup, tissue, plastic wrapper or banana peel where it would go if he was in his car. Oh yes into our beautiful littered landscape. No sense littering in the car when we have the beautiful outdoor world.

I guess the smoking litterer is really only looking out for themselves and forgetting that we are all a part of a wonderful multicolored blue and green marble called the earth. Hopefully they will make a change in the live style from “Green What’s That?” to Green what a wonderful color.

How to Connect with Audiences for Small and Big Groups

It is very important to connect with audiences, when you are making a speech or a presentation. It should not be like a monologue and should be addressed to a receptive audience. The audience has come to listen to you and learn from you, but you should also be open and have the desire to learn from them. You have to make your audience listen to you; otherwise your speech has no effect at all.

Before you start your public address, familiarize yourself by mixing with the people who are going to be your audience. You can just walk around; greet the people warmly as they arrive at the venue. So, when you get up on the podium to deliver your speech they are not anonymous faces and even they recognize you as a familiar face they have just met.

The audience has come to listen to you, so they want your address to be successful, so that they can learn something from you. They are also looking for some entertainment and stimulation, and if they don’t get it, they will show their disappointment. But if you succeed, they will show the deserved appreciation for your performance.

Just relax and this will help your audience to relax with you. If you mention your shortcomings to them right in the beginning, they consciously observe them, but if you don’t mention anything, they might not even notice.

Connecting with your audience means establishing an eye contact with them. Just be natural, as much as it is possible for you. If it is a totally unknown audience, you have to make an extra effort, but get them to think with you, nod their heads with you, pause with you when you want to stress on a certain point. The tempo of your speech should be moderate, not fast at all. Use your speech consciously to bring home the points to your audience, and give them the time to assimilate your words, before you jump to the next point.

If there is a question and answer session after your address, try and be as calm as possible. There are sometimes a few aggressive characters in the audience, and if you start a debate, it does not get your point across, because often debates remain unresolved. You should never be aggressive at any point, because that defeats the purpose of your whole speech. Maybe you can talk to the few attendees who expressed disagreement after the speech, not in front of the whole audience.

In today’s workplace presentation tools are necessary. If it is a presentation for your own colleagues, or people with whom you work in other establishments, the connection is even more important. Nevertheless avoid using insider stories, because there may be some in the group who are not familiar with them and will be left in the dark. You have to cater to each and every person in the audience, and connect with them individually. You must show an authentic interest in your audience, only then can you expect to get the same interest from them.
